Baby Kick Counter

Get comfortable, start a session, and tap the button each time you feel your baby move. The counter times how long it takes to reach 10 movements and keeps a short history so you can get to know your baby’s normal pattern.

Sit comfortably during an active time, then start a session.

Get to know what’s normal

Count at a time your baby is usually active. The goal isn’t a magic number — it’s learning your baby’s own pattern so you notice any change.

For your own awareness, not medical advice. If your baby’s movements slow or change, contact your midwife or maternity unit straight away — at any hour.

How it works

From around 28 weeks, getting to know your baby’s usual pattern of movements is one of the simplest ways to keep an eye on their wellbeing. Many people find a baby is most active at certain times of day — often after a meal or in the evening when you’re resting.

Pick a time your baby is usually active, sit or lie on your side, and tap once per movement (a kick, roll, flutter or jab all count). Reaching 10 movements often takes well under an hour. What matters most is what’s normal for your baby — a clear change from that is the signal to call.

Frequently asked questions

When should I start counting kicks? +

Most guidance suggests paying attention to movements from around 28 weeks, when patterns become more established. Earlier movements can be subtle and irregular, so a daily routine isn’t usually needed before then.

How long should 10 movements take? +

There’s no single “normal” — every baby is different. What matters is your baby’s own pattern. Many people feel 10 movements within an hour or two during an active period.

What if my baby isn’t moving as much? +

Contact your midwife or maternity unit straight away if you notice your baby is moving less than usual or the pattern changes. Never wait until the next day — it’s always worth checking, every time.

Does a quiet spell mean something is wrong? +

Babies have sleep cycles and quiet periods, so a short lull can be normal. But a clear, lasting reduction from your baby’s usual pattern should always be checked by a professional the same day.
