How it works

Babies sleep best when they go down before they get overtired. The comfortable stretch of awake time between sleeps is called a 'wake window', and it grows as your baby gets older.

Pick your baby's age band and enter the time they last woke up. We add the typical wake window for that age to give you an earliest and latest time to start the next sleep.

Treat the result as a starting point, not a strict rule. Watch your own baby's sleepy cues — rubbing eyes, yawning, looking away — and adjust. Every baby is a little different.

Frequently asked questions

What is a wake window? +

It's the amount of time a baby can comfortably stay awake between sleeps before getting overtired. Younger babies have very short wake windows; they get longer as your baby grows.

Why does the tool give a range instead of one time? +

Sleep needs vary day to day and baby to baby. A range gives you a sensible window to aim for, so you can also follow your baby's sleepy cues rather than watching the clock.

My baby fights sleep at the suggested time — is something wrong? +

Not necessarily. These are typical ranges, not a rule for your child. Naps that ran long or short, growth spurts, teething and illness all shift things. Use the times as a guide and adjust to your baby.
